Grump South Central in the hizouse

So several things today just went wrong.

A) I feel like hell. Insomnia is wearing on me and I am grumpy as heck because of it.

B) Spilled my coffee this morning= grumpy.

C) Feel fat, bloated and just overall crappy=grumpy

D) Not super happy about the pregnancy this week. Finally getting those waves of mood swings which I have not experienced the "I don't want to be pregnant" feeling until now= grumpy.

E) I just found out that the Federal Government DOES NOT pay for maternity leave. You must use all your sick and vacation leave in order to be paid for those 12 weeks= GRUMPY.
1. I only have 72 hrs of vacation and
2. 61 hrs of sick leave so far since I only have worked here since March. I accrue 8 hrs of vacation and 8 hrs of sick leave a month. SO, I will not have enough leave to pay for my maternity leave. However, I can have leave donated to me, so hopefully this will work.

BUT this just freaking sucks! People think that the fed's got it good, but listen, this is just ridiculous. Federal Employees' Parental Leave Act of 2009 is trying to at least get 4 weeks paid for maternity leave and the remainder will need to be covered with sick/annual leave. Maybe, just maybe this will be passed by June. Not likely!

Now, California does have a program where state disability does pay 55% of your pay for 6 weeks but only if the employer pays into the state disability Insurance, and guess what, I am 99% sure the federal government does not do that! SO, I have this great state backing maternity leave, but I work for the fed's in that state, so I loose that benefit. THAT F'ING SUCKS!

Argh. Going to SD in 2 days though. Need to have a vaca!

I am out. Leaving work early, and taking a nap.

Boo on blood types

Turns out that Baby Dadda has a positive blood type (+) so it looks like I will have to take that drug. BOO. I just hope I am not freaking allergic to it!

I am in love with Acme Sweet Batard bread. I maybe able to eat that all day, with some extra sharp cheddar cheese.....since I can't have brie. Amazing, my body is craving Calcium like no other! I have not eaten this much cheese since I was on Atkin's.....which was amazing by the way...horrible for you, fun to do, and good results.

Ok, so nothing else to report today. Kind of boring and slow. Nausea has been in check, but sleep sucks.

1st Pre-Natal appointment!

Whoppie! I DO NOT HAVE TWINS! Phew, that is a relief. Due date is June 24th, very close to my Dad's birthday so maybe it will be on the same day?! I really like my obgyn. She is super young, but made me feel comfortable....not a stuffy old lady who is too serious. She was just my type of person! Looks like I am "a planner" as she called me. She even said at one point, "Do I even need to counsel you? You seem to know a lot." That's google for ya!

So question now is, Do I want all the genetic testing done? Here are the options:

Nuchal Translucency (NT) is a specialized ultrasound along with blood withdrawals to evaluate two different proteins. The ultrasound measures the amount of fluid underneath the skin at the back of the fetus' neck. This only screens for Down syndrome and Trisomy 18, not spina bifida or other neural tube defects. You may have additional blood tests at 15-20 weeks to test for the spina bifida et al. However, there is no definite answer with these tests. They just give you a "You have a greater or lesser risk" answer.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) takes a small amount of tissue from the placenta between 10-13 weeks. This is performed earlier than amniocentesis but does not detect neural tube defects. Samples maybe taken transcervically or transabdominally.

Amniocentesis is performed between 16-20 weeks. A needle is inserted through your belly (boo) into the uterus and a small amt of amniotic fluid is removed. All chromosomal abnormalities can be detected.

Yikes, a lot to think about!!!!!

ALSO, it turns out that my blood type is A- and that puts me at risk of Rh Sensitization if Baby Dadda has a Positive (+) blood type. Quick info, if (BD) is (+) and me (-) then the baby will be (+) and then if our blood mixes (highly likely) I can develop a sensitization to this, basically, An Rh-negative mother will develop antibodies against Rh-positive blood cells (become sensitized) only if fetal blood crosses the placenta and enters her bloodstream. Her immune system then "sees" these cells, identifies them as foreign, and mounts an immune response. (more info here) They can give a fancy drug called Rhogam™ to counter act this. SO, need to find out Baby Dadda blood type STAT!

Other than that, I can only gain 20 lbs because I am obese. Yes, I am according to the BMI. Well, I am border overweight. 2 days ago, I was overweight, today I am obese. Literally only a lb or 2 off.

Went swimming and had PT today. My PT coach is one tough cookie and is mad I won't be here next week. Whatev!

Well, surprise, here is a picture of Mr or Miss Kidney Bean! Oh thought of a new names today, Stella or Olivia, but these boy names are killing me. Please give me ideas!!!!!

HealthCare and Lazyyyyyy

So I got my first bill from my 1st pre-natal tests. I don't have to pay a penny, thank god, but REALLY? $1359.00 for blood work and a urine test. Let me write that again, $1359.00. I can't even imagine if I did not have insurance! How do women out there do this with nothing? I feel very, very lucky that I have a good job, a great family, and good insurance.

I will be keeping the billings, and will keep this information flowing out there for those that need to know, that baby's are FREAKING EXPENSIVE. :)

On a side note, the exhaustion took over this weekend. I have not left my house (except for peanut butter of course) since Thursday night. I have muscle atrophy and that is including my brain from all the TV I have watched.

Did watch Bottle Shock on my Netflix Instant play. Cute movie, check it out here.

Dinner

Seriously, the first jar of Peanut Butter I have purchased in 5 yrs.

Insomnia

Ok, so now I am getting up in the middle of the night and I am wide awake! I can't seem to keep my eyes open past 9 pm, and I am passing out on the couch, waking up and going to bed. Then 2 am rolls around, and I am up, up, and up. Last night, I actually ate Indian food, watched CNN, and then went back to bed around 4 am. Woke up at 7 am as usual.

Why? Why does our body do this knowing full well that in 32 weeks or so, I will have to wake up every freaking 3 hrs or more to feed the little kidney bean? I want to sleep NOW. Sleep for 12 hrs, cause I know it ain't going to happen ever again until kidney bean has a sleep over at another kids house.

My cats definitely sense the new addition to the family. Both love chillin' on my belly, more so than normal. Both at once can be a bit of a bladder control issue, those of you that know Marlee understand! I wonder if the purring is soothing to kidney bean?

Gotta go pee.

Back from Denver!

No more hives, but "Herbie the Lip Herpe" decided to come for a visit a few days ago. Thank God for Abreva, Herbie is not welcome here, and he doesn't like Abreva at all.

Altitude in Denver was not kind to (A) and I. We are back to sea level and I am taking advantage of my final days off before going back to work. Been sleeping all day.

Update on prego life:

Hives are gone, please pray that they do not resurface.

I pee every freaking 5 minutes it seems. My kidneys are working well!

Mint tea is my savior! It helps tremendously with nausea.

I still forget I am prego sometimes and eat way too much and get really nauseous. Spent 3 hrs in bed in Denver on Tuesday cause I decided that a whole piece of chocolate cake was what I needed. Barf.... Not again.

(A) makes a great aunt/surrogant mom/dad. Poor her though. She is amazed by the farts that come out of this body.

My first prenatal appointment in on Monday! I can't wait, hopefully I can hear a heartbeat, or TWO. Hahaha.

Going back to bed. Write more later!

Thanks for all those that are reading and sorry I have been slacking this past week!

Prego in SF.
